Newport Festival Folks List Favorite Folk Songs

Paste Magazine presents a peek at this weekend’s Newport Folk Festival (best known for being the site at which Dylan went electric in 1965) with twelve different groups listing the songs that make them feel most honored to be playing there. From “Oh Suzanna” to traditional Irish tunes covered by (among many others) Metallica, one band even admits to favoring their own cover of “The Battle Hymn of the Republic,” which happens to be perfectly acceptable as it is the very iteration of these songs, the various legs they grow, the many mouths they choose to make their homes in over the years, that make them folk favorites in the first place.
